About
American artist Mauro Zamora creates works that focus on the landscape, its cultural significance and human interaction with the landscape. Through an exploration of global iconography, his works bypass traditional representations of the landscape with a constellation of loaded image references materially embedded in layers of paint. Ideas of the landscape are layered in transparent space with an emphasis on human intervention and the analysis of material culture. Inherent in Zamora’s practice is the exploration of how the physical ground and boundaries of space and national sovereignty are deeply embedded in the creation of value, systems of global economics and geopolitics.
